Dolly Parton was one of those rare artists who seemed to belong to everyone. When she died in August, the mourning reached far beyond country music. People were grieving not only a singer and songwriter, but a presence: funny, generous, glittering, plain-spoken and kind.
Her songs carried that same mix of sparkle and poignant sadness, which is why hearing them reimagined by the American Pops Orchestra at the Atlas Performing Arts Center, 8 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 24, will feel less like a tribute than a collective act of joy.
Join with fans to celebrate the life, music, and legacy of Dolly Parton. I Will Always Love You brings Dolly’s unmistakable songbook to the Sprenger Theater at The Atlas Performing Arts Center, honoring an artist whose music and unmistakable spirit touched millions around the world.
Guest vocalists include Andrew Keenan-Bolger (Broadway’s Newsies, Tuck Everlasting), Brandon Ratcliff and Suzanne Cox (Grammy Winners, Grand Ole Opry), Sarah Gross (Zach Bryan, Jimmy Fallon), and Hilary Morrow (Birdland Jazz, Second City). From the songs everyone knows by heart to a few lesser-known gems, this one-night-only concert celebrates the remarkable range of Dolly’s music and the stories behind it.
Proceeds from the evening will benefit free national children’s programming at the Atlas. It carries forward the spirit of Dolly’s lifelong commitment to creating opportunities for young people. Through her Imagination Library, she provided hundreds of millions of free books to children around the world. The Atlas continues that legacy with free children’s programming, bringing the joy of the arts to diverse kids at no cost.
