A hyperthermia alert is issued and the Heat Emergency Plan is activated whenever the temperature or heat index reaches 95 degrees. In response to potentially dangerous heat, the District government opens cooling centers throughout the city. If you see someone who needs help, call 311. Recreation centers, DC public libraries and senior wellness centers are places to beat the heat and are open to the public. These locations provide a cool place to rest and also water and activities. www.hsema.dc.gov
