Celebrate July 4th in the District

Live musical performances, parades, activities and fireworks highlight annual independence day traditions in the District.

The National Independence Day Parade will kick off the celebrations 11:45 a.m. Performers will travel down Constitution Avenue NW between 7th and 17th Streets NW. The annual celebration will feature a variety of different bands, fife and drum corps, floats, military units, balloons, drill teams, national dignitaries and more. The parade is free and open to the public.

In the evening, don’t miss live musical performances at the A Capitol Fourth concert. Enjoy sounds of the U.S. Army Chorus, Smokey Robinson, Fitz and the Tantrums, The National Symphony Orchestra, Britt Stewart and more.

The concert will begin at 8 p.m. on the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol. Gates will open to the public at 3 p.m. and all seating on the lawn will be first come, first served. A firework display will follow the concert at 9:30 p.m.

The show is open to the public; no ticket or advanced registration is required to attend the performance. To watch virtually, the concert will also be streamed on PBS and on your local radio station.

Several road closures and parking restrictions will be in place for the event. You can view a full list of traffic advisories for the holiday weekend here. WMATA will be offering free rides after 5 p.m. on all metro and bus service lines. Visit wmata.com for more information.
