Find the Perfect Gift at The Neighborgoods

Bright, whimsical designs complete with adorable puns adorn bags, towels, aprons and cards at The Neighborgoods. Whether you seek the perfect gift or a colorful new addition to your kitchen, this local artist has created something special for everyone.

Founder and creator Jodi Kostelnik’s love of food and aptitude for design piqued her interest in screen printing. What started as a mission to create the perfect holiday gifts quickly became a popular gift among her friends and family and, later, a full time job.

Kostelnik began selling her unique creations locally at the USDA farmers market and at wholesale trade shows until she opened her first retail shop in Shaw in 2019. The shop closed down during the COVID-10 pandemic, but Kostelnik continued creating and expanding her collection.

“I just love how food connects people,” Kostelnik said. “It’s pretty [and customers] get so excited because there’s a story behind it.”

The idea quickly expanded beyond dish towels, and now features an extensive collection of screen printed tote bags, magnets, cards, clothing and more. All of the items, which are sold online and in more than 600 stores worldwide, are hand packaged in the local Petworth studio.

The new location, which opened last summer, is strictly a studio space used for packaging and inventory storage. Occasionally, they open their doors to the public for open studio days.

This spring, the shop announced an exciting new partnership with Marshall Retail Group and opened a new storefront in the Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport. The store, which opened late last month, carries the Neighborhoods collection and a curated collection of other local items.

Kostelnik is excited about the brand’s expansion into the airport. She expressed gratitude for the positive responses to their products around the world, but especially in the District.

“This community is so great at supporting local,” Kostelnik said. “And they love our products.”
