Petal Porch Winners Announced

Pink flowers, streamers, lights and signs have adorned porches across the city all spring. Each unique design was entered into a friendly community competition in hopes of being crowned the “Petal Porch” champion by the National Cherry Blossom Festival.

Each spring, the National Cherry Blossom Festival invites DMV neighborhoods to participate in the festival at home by decorating their porches and yards in celebration of springtime.

The festival crowned 10 champions in 2024: the best-decorated porch in each of the District’s eight wards as well as a winner in both Maryland and Virginia. Staff selected the top three finalists and guest judges from the Washington DC Instagram Community (IGDC) selected the winning houses.

Each of this year’s winners will receive a custom watercolor rendering of their decorated porch to commemorate their unique design.

The festival also honored the “Best Blossom Block” of spring decor and was awarded to the residents of the 600 Block of A Street NE. The festival celebrated the residents with a block party on April 7 featuring face painting, live music, food and mini dance sessions.
