Celebrate the Year of the Dragon

Celebrate the arrival of spring and the year of the dragon at this weekend’s Lunar New Year family festival. The Smithsonian Museum of Asian Art and several local organizations plan host events and activities for the whole family.

This year’s events are presented by the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China, the Vietnam Society and the Korean Culture Center.

The festival will take place on Saturday, Feb. 3, at the National Museum of Asian Art (1100 Jefferson Dr. SW) from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event will feature a variety of hands-on cultural activities, performances and celebrations including: arts and crafts, storytelling, book signings, sweet and savory bites from local eateries, tours and live performances.

Activities are scheduled throughout the day with performances scheduled at the following times:

  • Vietnamese Opening Ceremony – 11:30 a.m.
  • Lunar New Year Traditions Chefs Panel Discussion – 12 p.m.
  • Lion Dances by the Yee Fung Toy Association – 12:30 p.m.
  • Sichuan Opera – 3:30 p.m.

Free timed entry tickets are required for admission to the Vietnamese Opening Ceremony performances and the Sichuan Opera performance. You can reserve tickets here.
