Not your typical steakhouse

Rustic decor and an illuminated bar define St. Anselm’s reputation for casual elegance in the Union Market District. The steakhouse features a robust menu of classic fare with a sophisticated twist; it’s an experience far more unique than an average steakhouse. 

Since the restaurant’s opening in 2018, General manager Ray Daly said the style of cuisine, much like their beverage program, has been “a case study in simplicity.” Ingredients are key to their simple, yet elevated dishes with a focus on local sourcing from the DMV and east coast region as well as sourcing meats that are free of antibiotics, hormones and steroids.

The Union Market District, home to many of the District’s newest restaurants and bars, is the perfect place for St. Anselm’s energy, Daly says. 

“Union Market is a pretty perfect match for St. Anselm,” Daily said. “It walks a fine line between elegance and sophistication and a little bit of gritty charm. I think you’ll see a lot of that with Union Market.”

Creating an unpretentious and unique setting for guests was a top priority for the restaurant. “We’re not trying to be mixologists,”Daly said. “We’re trying to craft great cocktails that taste delicious, that people can enjoy in a cool setting.

St. Anselm is open Monday through Thursday 5 to 10 p.m., Friday 12 to 3 p.m. and 5 to 11 p.m., Saturday 10:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. and Sunday 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Visit stanselmdc.com to learn more about the restaurant and reserve a table.
