Don’t Miss the 17th Street High Heel Race

Celebration, competition and fun are coming to 17th St. NW on Tuesday. Returning for its 36th year, in collaboration with DC Mayor Muriel Bowser (D) and the Mayor’s office for LGBTQ Affairs, the 17th St. high heel race will take place on Oct. 24 in Dupont circle.

The race began more than three decades ago as a wager amongst drag queens, bartenders and community members to race in high heels to each of the LGBTQ bars along the street. The pre Halloween tradition has continued as a celebration of the diversity of the District’s LGBTQ community.
